Aim of the competition

To give students of Hungarian-language secondary schools in Romania who are interested in chemistry the opportunity to assess their knowledge of chemistry.

Secondary school students in grades IX–XI can enter the competition, in two different topic areas. Registration follows the instructions on the main page of the Bolyai Farkas Multidisciplinary Subject Competition.

County final – online test

Round 1

The problem sheets can be downloaded from this page at the time given on the competition's main page.

Ranking in two groups

Marking

The problem sheets are marked by the members of the competition committee and ranked in two groups by score: grade IX, and grades X–XI. Results are announced on the competition's main page.

National final – written exam

Round 2

In the same two topic areas, based on a 3-hour written paper.

Syllabus

Grade IX: grade VII and VIII syllabus + from grade IX: the atom; the electron configuration and properties of the elements; interactions between ions, atoms and molecules; the gaseous state.
Grade X: grade IX syllabus + hydrocarbons, alcohols.
Grade XI: grade X syllabus + alcohols, halogen derivatives, phenols, amines and optical isomerism.

The questions of the county round cover the syllabus of the relevant grade, as well as substances and chemical phenomena found in everyday life; some of them belong to chemical "general knowledge".
