Kájoni János Recorder Ensemble
The ensemble's namesake and history
The ensemble is named after Kájoni János, a Transylvanian Franciscan friar who collected sacred and secular songs, founded a printing press and published books, enriching Transylvanian Hungarian culture. His personal motto reflected service to his homeland and the cultivation of culture.
The recorder ensemble was founded in the 2000–2001 school year by László József, a physics teacher. At first the ensemble had only a few members; over time it grew into an opportunity open to the whole school.
At first they played only recorders; later guitarists joined too. The repertoire is made up of Transylvanian Renaissance music, the ensemble's own compositions, works by composers of other nationalities, poems set to music and folk songs.
Albums
The ensemble's first album was released in September 2008, and a second one followed.
Performances
The recorder ensemble performs regularly at school celebrations, important commemorations, class reunions and book launches.
